AMPTHILL TOWN COUNCIL 

REPORT OF THE FINANCE, POLICY AND

GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE MEETING

held in the Council Chamber at the Council Offices, 66 Dunstable Street, Ampthill on

Wednesday 7th July 2010 at 7.30 pm

Present: Cllrs M Wilson (Chairman), Mrs S Bacon, Mrs P Foster, R Holden G Pascal, M Smith and the Clerk.

Also in attendance was Cllr P Eversley.

  1. 1.                  To receive apologies for absence.

Apologies were received from Cllr G Summerfield (family bereavement) and Cllr R Tebbutt (on holiday).

  1. 2.                  Period of Public Participation.

There were no members of the public present.

  1. 3.                  To receive and record declarations of interest, whether personal or prejudicial.

There were no interests declared.

  1. 4.                  To consider the Football Club Lease with regards to the cess pit emptying.

Recommended that this matter be dealt with during the rent review due in 2011 and the Council will continue to pay these invoices until then. A valuation for the Football Club building is also to be sort at the same time as the rent review.

  1. 5.                  To consider the Football Club Lease in regards to the report on repairs required to the Clubhouse.

Councillors were concerned that this report had been prepared on the instruction of the Nursery and not through the Tenants themselves.

Recommended that a meeting is called with the Football Club to talk through these matters.

  1. 6.                  To consider correspondence from The Royal British Legion with regards to the Duke of Bedford War Memorial and a joint fundraiser.

Members had been provided with a copy of the correspondence, after consideration it was:

Recommended that:

  • Someone from the British Legion is to be invited to attend a Town Council meeting to talk through what sort of event they envisage holding.
  • A letter is to be sent back to advise that the Council is currently seeking information on what fund raising has already been achieved by Rotary and a local action group, and the Town Council would be happy for Ampthill Park to be used for an event.
  1. 7.                  To consider a request from Ampthill Safer Neighbourhood Team  for the Council’s assistance in the sum of £205 to purchase a HEADCAM to assist and use in conjunction with CCTV footage for:
  • Recording night time economy offences
  • Recording vehicles committing traffic offences
  • Use in Ampthill Park when patrolling and dealing with nuisance youths.
  • General anti social behaviour incidents.

Recommended that the Council are unable to support this application at this time.

  1. 8.                  To receive notice from Central Bedfordshire Council of the contribution to the urban grass cutting in the sum of £2020.23, last years contribution being £2000.22

Recommended that this information is noted.

  1. 9.                  To receive information on the Electoral review of Central Bedfordshire in elation to Ampthill

The information received is that Ampthill will be linked in with Maulden and Clophill.

Recommended that a letter be sent to the Local Government Boundary Commission to advise that Ampthill Town Council object to the proposals in the review and suggest that Maulden and Clophill are linked together leaving Ampthill on its own.
